The first Kachel Motor Company began in 1952 as a Studebaker Dealership. It was founded by William Harrison Kachel Jr. who had a strong love for automobiles. He inherited this love from his father William Harrison Kachel Sr. who in the late 1930’s owned an automobile repair shop. The love of automobiles has been carried through the generations to the present manager, Timothy J. Kachel, of Kachel Motor Company who is the Great Grandson of William Jr.
The passion now is no longer Studebakers, but German and Italian High Performance automobiles. We are in the business of selling, maintaining and custom fabricating to satisfy the needs for the “Love of Your Automobile”.
KMC occupies 5,000 square feet of a 45,000 square foot brick building in South Lawrence, Massachusetts. The building was constructed in the early 1900’s for local sport and entertainment, a Bowling Alley and Pool Hall. It eventually became known as the Lawrence Rec Center. Over the years, many good times transpired within its walls giving the building a rich aura of contentment and gratification.
The interior of the building recently went through a complete renovation but several of the old interior brick walls still remain. The exterior is unchanged and has an ambience of the olden days when Lawrence was a booming textile manufacturing city.
Tim Kachel
My passion for cars began as far back as I can remember. Since childhood my curiosity to discover how things worked mechanically led me to dismantle anything I could lay my hands on, clocks, radios, and to the chagrin of my parents, their lawnmower. As a teenager, my “car fever” flourished and I cycled through quite a few cars. During this time I gained experience working on BMW’s, Audi’s and even Chevrolets and Fords. I completely overhauled a supercharged six cylinder engine by the age of 15.
While in college, I worked part time for Schneller BMW, in Newburyport, MA and after graduation worked full time and remained there for four years. I was then given a chance to work for one of the top BMW race teams in America, Turner Motor Sports, so I jumped at the opportunity. From there, I joined KTR European Motorsports which expanded my experience to Italian Automobiles, both vintage and modern. At KTR I realized a new passion “Fabrication” and continued to enhance this skill over the next three years.
